We suggest investigating whether inhalation of the antibiotic levofloxacin is an alternative to systemic treatment for CAP in terms of treatment response, and at the same time reducing antimicrobial resistance and preserving the gut microbiome. We hypothesize that this reduces selection of resistant strains in the gut and reduces side-effects while preserving efficacy for treating CAP.
